Active Participation
Manual driving requires drivers to anticipate speed, select gears and coordinate multiple inputs instead of simply pointing the car down the road.
SAVE MANUALS
A nonprofit for the next generation of drivers
Save Manuals introduces young people to manual-transmission driving with one goal: help create more engaged, attentive and confident drivers.
Our Mission
Modern vehicles make driving easier than ever. Phones, notifications and screens also create more opportunities for distraction. Save Manuals exists to introduce young drivers to a form of driving that demands participation.
We believe learning to operate a manual transmission can help young people develop vehicle awareness, coordination, confidence and a stronger habit of staying mentally engaged with the road.
Save Manuals promotes driver education and engagement. We do not claim that manual-transmission driving alone prevents crashes or distracted driving.
Why Manual?
Manual driving requires drivers to anticipate speed, select gears and coordinate multiple inputs instead of simply pointing the car down the road.
Young drivers learn to recognize engine speed, road speed, hills, traffic flow and how the vehicle responds to their decisions.
Learning a demanding new skill can build confidence and give young drivers a deeper understanding of how cars actually work.
What We’re Building
Hands-on opportunities for young drivers to learn manual-transmission fundamentals in a controlled environment.
Simple teaching materials for learners, parents, volunteers and instructors.
Partnerships with driving schools, car clubs, dealerships, manufacturers and safety-minded organizations.
